A potentially dangerous bomb scare occurred near the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Chandigarh on 2nd January. According to Sanjeev Kohli, the Nodal Officer in Disaster Management, a live bombshell was discovered in the vicinity of Mann’s residence, prompting an immediate response from emergency services. The police, bomb disposal squad, and army were all called to the scene to secure the area and defuse the potential threat.
The bomb disposal squad was able to safely secure the live bomb in a bomb basket, and the Indian Army’s Western Command has begun an investigation into the incident. The bomb was found on a helipad located approximately 500 meters to 1 kilometer away from the Chief Minister’s residence, and was reportedly spotted by a tubewell operator in a mango plantation between the T point of Kansal and Naya Gaon at around 4-4:30 pm. At the time of the discovery, Chief Minister Mann was not present at his residence.
The incident has understandably caused concern and alarm in the area, and Congress leader Amarinder Singh has called for a thorough investigation into the matter. Singh stated that Congress holds a stance of zero tolerance towards terrorism, and it is crucial that the origins of the alleged bomb be determined in order to ensure the safety and security of the community.
It is fortunate that the bomb disposal squad was able to safely secure the live bomb and that no one was injured in the incident.
