Delhi shivers through season’s lowest temperature, trains affected

Delhi witnessed its lowest temperature of the season on Tuesday, with a minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius recorded at the Safdarjung observatory, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The cold weather and low visibility prompted Delhi Airport to issue a fog alert for travelers, advising them to check with their airlines for updates on flight operations. While flights are currently operating normally, this may change depending on visibility. In addition, low visibility procedures have been implemented as a precautionary measure.

The cold and foggy conditions have caused delays for numerous trains in the region, with at least two trains rescheduled in the Northern Railway region and 12 trains running behind schedule. The IMD has also forecasted that states such as Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi may experience dense to very dense fog, with isolated pockets in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand potentially affected as well. Cold to severe cold day conditions are expected to occur in pockets of Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, while Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan may experience cold day conditions.

As the temperature continues to plummet in Delhi, residents are feeling the effects of the cold wave. In an effort to get some relief from the bitter cold, many people have been gathering around bonfires in various parts of the city. These communal fires provide a source of warmth and a place for people to gather and socialize.

In addition, some pockets of northeast and northwest Rajasthan may experience cold wave to severe cold wave conditions, according to the IMD. Isolated pockets in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, and Delhi may also experience cold wave conditions. It is recommended that people in affected areas take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the cold.
