All municipal schools in Delhi will also be closed until January 15, with remedial sessions continuing for students in grades 9 through 12. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red alert for Punjab, Haryana, UP, Chandigarh, and Delhi, with an Orange warning in place for Bihar and Rajasthan. IMD Scientist Dr. RK Jenamani stated that while the coldwave is expected to end on January 10, very dense to dense fog is still anticipated. However, the next western disturbance, beginning on the night of January 10, is expected to bring some relief from the thick fog and coldwave.
In Noida, schools will be closed until January 14 for students in Classes 1 through 8. Classes 9 through 12 will now meet from 8 am to 2 pm until further notice. The Delhi government’s decision to extend the winter break for private schools aims to protect the health and safety of students and staff during the harsh weather conditions.
In addition to the school closures, the Delhi government has also issued a warning for residents to stay indoors as much as possible and to dress in warm layers when venturing outside.
