In his opening over he conceded 11 runs which looked like a recap of the last match, however he quickly got his line and length corrected. Despite this rough start, Arshdeep managed to bounce back in his second over, which was the final one of the power-play. He managed to take out Pathum Nissanka, although he did give up 7 runs in the process. Arshdeep returned to the field in the 17th over and was able to claim two more wickets for his team.

In the previous match, Arshdeep Singh faced widespread criticism for his poor performance. He had thrown multiple no balls and overrun the crease a few times, which resulted in costly extras for India. These mistakes ultimately cost India the match. Captain Hardik Pandya had criticized Arshdeep Singh for his poor performance, stating that they do not expect such a subpar outing from him at such a crucial stage of the match.
