he Paralympic Games are multi-sport event which involves those athletes which suffer from a range of disabilities (muscular dystrophy, polio syndrome, mental impairment etc). There a two type of Paralympic games according to seasons one is Winter and another Summer Paralympics. All Paralympic Games are organised and managed by (IPC) or International Paralympic Committee.

Mariyappan and Varun bags gold and bronze medals in Rio Paralympics

Mariyappan Thangavelu of tamilnadu became third Indian to bag a Paralympic gold medal, while Varun Bhati won a bronze medal in a high jump event of the ongoing Rio Games.

The other 2 athletes to do so :-

  1. Murlikant Petkar (swimming)
  2. Devendra Jhajharia (javelin throw)

Mariyappan, who was only five years when his right leg was rammed by a bus on his way to school. he finishes with best score of 1.89m in a high jump match

Prime Minister Nardenra Modi congratulated both the atheletes for their remarkable effort
